Second Rifle Platoon, Mulcey, france, january 4, 1945

PHOTO COLLAGE OF 018-01 AND 019-01

Second Rifle Platoon, C Company

This is a photograph of nearly the entire Second Rifle Platoon taken a few days before (I think- it could have been longer) the Battle of Herrlishiem. It is a combination of two of Donald Conkling's photographs. Yellow shading represents those wounded between January 8th and January 19th, 1945. Red shows those killed in action during those same dates. Blue represents drivers and co-drivers not in action during the initial battle.

Someone else said (and I can't recall who- it was a long time ago) that this picture was taken in Vic sur Seille, France on December 27th, 1944. I don't know who told me this, but he made a list of the names is a little different than mine.

I don't know for sure why the guys that died are all grouped together. I remember being told to assemble for the picture.

The names on this list below are from a list that I made on the back of the photo about 10 years after the war, so I am not absolutley positive of every name here. For the most part, I'm certain, but there are a few faces that are hard to see. If you see an error, please let me know. Its April 2007 now, and so its been awhile and I can't remember everything. There are two I know of that aren't shown in the picture. Most of these men are dead now, but there are a few still around that I talk to.
