Franklin High School Varsity Baseball Team 1943
This picture was taken in the spring of 1943, just before I was drafted
into the army. We're all seniors at Franklin High School, I'm standing
on the right, Franklin High School is behind me. Most of these players
are from Italian families who lived in what was called "Garlic Gulch"
along Rainier Avenue. Johnny Ursino, on the lower right, was later a marine
and wounded at Tarawa in the South Pacific.

With Letterman's jacket, 1943
I'm standing in the backyard of my sister Mary's house in Bremerton, Washington.
Its June of 1943, just a few weeks, or days, before being inducted into the
army. I have my letterman's jacket on with two stripes for earning my letter
for two years. My wife washed the jacket once later and it shrank so much I
had to get rid of it.
